The 2022 Non-Food Top 100

Food is the primary industry of franchising. In this year’s Top 100 Global Franchises Ranking, specifically, 35 spots are occupied by food franchises.

Because of this, many well-performing brands get pushed out because the main Top 100 only allows for a select number of brands. But here is where more of those brands can get some spotlight.

For this ranking, the criteria for is the same as the main Top 100 ranking with one big exception: No food allowed!

However, this ranking does include convenience store franchises. Why is that noteworthy? If the No. 1 on this list, 7-Eleven, has its way, convenience store franchises will be competing for the same turf as traditional food franchises soon, particularly fast food or quick-service restaurants.

As highlighted in our 2022 Top 100 Franchises Report, part of the company’s growth plan is a continuation of its desire to become more of a fast food destination—and it’s made major investments to that effect. “Today’s opportunity is in the QSR space, and we are responding by aggressively rolling out our restaurants across the country,” 7-Eleven Chief Operating Officer Chris Tanco has said.
