U.S. Army veteran Garmani Maw, owner of Signarama East Meadow, was featured in Long Island Press for his journey from federal service to franchise ownership. Originally from Myanmar, Maw immigrated to the U.S. in 1996 and enlisted in the Army in 2008, serving three years on active duty in South Korea and Germany, followed by five years in the Army Reserve. After a career with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Archives and Records Administration, he left federal service in 2025 to pursue his longtime goal of owning a business.
Today, Maw’s Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business provides custom signs, graphics, and branding to businesses, schools, and public agencies across Long Island, including work with the Nassau County Police Academy and local fire departments. Signarama President A.J. Titus noted that military service builds many of the skills needed for franchise success, such as leadership, discipline, and adaptability. Signarama also offers veterans a 20% discount on its franchise fee.
